Your first ever contest piece?

I was just wondering what everyone's very first contest piece was? Mine was "Little Suite for Brass" by Malcolm Arnold, 4th Section, Yorkshire Areas with Thorpe Hesley Brass Band.

My first area Test Piece was Symphony of Marches way, way back in 1964. I was only 3 years old mind you!!!

Just goes to show banding is a long lasting pastime.

'Sirius' (Frank Wright), Reading Contest c.1964, on 2nd Baritone. That terrifying 5/4 section - I was sure I'd 'put one in' and lose us the contest. As it happened I didn't and the band still came in about 23rd from a field of 10!

My first test piece was Saddleworth Festival Overture at the 1996 Hardraw Scar Contest.
My first areas was in 1997 on Pennine Moors, talk about baptism of fire, playing the Flugel part!!!

"Young at Heart" by ????? (someone will know), Belle Vue, fourth section in 1976. Also the first time I went on a Rollercoaster.

Mine was Tameside Overture by Philip Sparke back in 1985 (I think...) with Crystal Palace Band. Can't remember our result!
Malvern Suite with (the then named) Haydock Youth, now called Valley Brass. it was in 95/6/7 (can't quite remember) at Fleetwood, and we did in fact win the youth section!
