All I can remember is that we won, the band that played 11th came 3rd and Enderby were 7th. Sorry, not very helpful! Maybe the organisers will send full results through to 4BR or something at some point...

Just out of nosyness....
What did each band play?

Well at least I came well up the list in the predictions!

I have to say that the public hall is a diabolical venue: squeaky floor, squeaky chairs, roasting hot and with an acoustic that punishes anything played above ppp. It's OK for Mr Landry to say that bands have to adjust to the acoustic and the conditions, but he has the great benefit of not having to be sat there himself.

Portishead... I thought you were very unlucky with your results today... we had you well up there in the prizes![/quote]

Thanks for your kind words Lotta. We were dead impressed with your performance too - really didn't mind being beaten by you! However, wasn't the hall just the pits? 2 years running we've had an early draw in that room, been criticised for being too loud, and had PA interference during our performance (this year the tail end of a bible reading marring the end of Elegy from a Downland Suite). In addition, those horrible noisy chairs really didn't help my bad back any! I can feel a strongly-worded letter to the organisers coming on to encourage a re-think for next year...

See ya in Harrogate!

Apparently, next year it's being held in Pershore again - they were only in Evesham for 2 consecutive years because there was some work being done at the Number 8 Theatre in the town.

Also when the prizes were being presented in the 4th section it was mentioned that in 2009 the contest will take place in Droitwich Spa.

We (Gillingham, 2nd Section) played:

Stage Centre - Goff Richards
Gethsemane - Lloyd Webber arr Farr, sop solo
Pastorale - Goff Richards
Caravan - Ellington, arr Steve Sykes

19 minutes exactly, with not much talking. How did bands manage to play 5 pieces?

Play Caravan as the opening number and cut the middle section of the piece out this will save quite a few minutes.
