What is "bumping"?

Think I can answer this question, because I did it without knowing what it was.... :oops:

It's really when you post in one of your threads to intentionally get more people to view the posts your making. Basically attention seeking, I think.

To quote tMP rules:
"Bumping: If you need to *bump* a topic becasue of a serious need (i.e. player deputy et al) then this is OK but generally, please can you kindly refrain from *bumping* topics "

Like to apologise again for bumping my thread, I didn't realise it was a rule not to. :oops: :( :oops:
Because I hadn't read through all of the rules/ announcements- another thing I didn't do! :oops: :(

The effect of posting on a thread is to bring it to the top again, which means, as Seedhouse says, that more people are likely to read it.

It can, however, be extremely annoying when the new post adds nothing to what is already there, hence the objection to "bumping", and our desire to prevent it happening.
