What do you want from a music shop?

I would like to open an online music store - specialising in brass instruments.

I know doing a survey online isnt strictly valid as you wont get a full spectrum of people but here goes anyway.

Would you shop online as opposed to going to a local store ?

What sort of things would you look for sheet music, cd's, instruments or accessories ?

Would you shop internationally?

What type of things put you off purchasing from the net?

Is loyalty a big part of your purchasing decision or do you like to shop around for the best price?

Any other comments would be welcome, I'm gonna leave it as a thread rather than a poll because I have asked a few questions and I'll just get myself confused if I use the poll!

hmmm... wouldn't like to buy a trombone over the net. I'd have to play it before handing over my cash! Sheet music and accessories would be good, especially if you could do them for mates rates! :wink:

For things like cd's and general brass banding accessories (i.e mutes, sheet music) dont think their is any problem shopping online, providing you make sure that payment details are fully secure and the firm is reliable in transportation of goods.

I wouldn't have any problems buying an instrument online, however the only reserve i would have is if something went wrong with it, i wouldn't feel too happy having to post it back to the site, as opposed to simply taking it back to the shop, and getting them to fix it there, or if need be getting a temporary replacement.

I think as long as the prices are competitive and you have a wide range of goods, their shouldn't be a problem.

Would just like to be able to order music online and it all to arrive together.Fed up getting it in "dribs and drabs".

All I would like from any music shop, is that at the time of ordering/enquiring about items which are advertised or 'available' from the shop or site in question, is honest answers about times, specs, previous problems encountered by the shop concered.... etc.

I don't know wether this is because these shops think that they are infalable, but this seems to be a persistant problem. I do appreciate that there are numerous constraints placed upon these shops, but honesty for me, would ensure recurring custom. At the end of the day, the world is now a much smaller and accessible place, and the choice a lot greater!!!

I know exactly what you mean. A colleague of mine bought a graphics card the same time as me so we could share the P&P costs. They said they had the item in stock and we waited for over 2 months for our cards. Without any decent explanations! We were just told that we would receive them in the next few days, so I know exactly what you mean.

Any payments would be made through Paypal which is a huge internet company that deals with web payments. Anybody who has used eBay will have bought and sold through there. I thought that would be the safest option as their encryption would be of a much higher standard than anything I could write :?

I think the key for the beginning would be a good range of mouthpieces, mutes, cleaning implements and general everyday brass items, at competitive prices. This would hopefully get you recognised by people.

If you could offer more, maybe imported mouthpieces etc, e.g. Sparx? Just a thought.

And i am sure that if you did some really good introductory offers to tMP members, with the number of members we have, we could soon spread the word about your 'excellent' website
