On the 'Listen Again' facilty on Radio 3. The 2nd Prom. I am rather behind at the moment, so playing catch up! So far, I am actually quite impressed by the way Paul Daniel is handling the works he was asked to conduct, due to a continued illness with Vernon Handley.

The orchestra is the BBC Concert Orchetsra. They are playing

Bax: The Garden of Fand
Finzi: Intimations of Immortality
Elgar Violin Concerto(Nigel Kennedy, violin).

I was'nt actually looking forward to this concert being conducted by Paul Daniel, but so far so good. I was hoping for the likes of Richard Hickox or Sir Andrew Davies but Mr Daniel seems ok at this juncture.

For anyone who's interested, BBC2 tomorrow evening is broadcasting the Elgar as part of a feature on Nigel Kennedy.

Constant Lambert, Concerto for Piano and 9 instruments. Not a bad combo this. Perhaps something similar ought to be done with a small brass band group?
