The 'Official' tMP West of England Regional Thread

This is the official tMP discussion thread for the West of England Area of the forthcoming Regional Championships of Great Britain.

Feel free to discuss your thoughts and predictions for each section within the Area - but don't forget to enter the tMP Predictions Competition - for your chance to contribute to the overall tMP Predictions (plus a chance to win one of the first copies of 'The Mouthpiece' - the winning march composed by Darrol Barry). Please note, that any predictions posted within this thread do not contribute towards the competition. We also ask that when the results for the various sections are announced, they are posted in this thread, and not posted as brand new threads - it has the potential to become extremely messy should this be the case. We will be creating and maintaining a complete set of results for viewing on the tMP Portal as they happen.

I'm still enjoying playing Tam, it's been much more interesting than some we've had recently.

Just changed my mind, tonight we had a brilliant rehearsal, and the basses played together, and I am all excited and I cannot wait until next weekend and I am hyper and I think I had better have a drink and now I am going.

Spare a thought for all us poor 4th sectioners we have another massive section this year which makes it sooooo hard to get out of.

I think we have been given a great piece in Divertimento to work with this year. I've really enjoyed playing it and i really hope we can qualify. Mainly for personal reasons as i'll just be able to squeeze going to the finals before i leave for uni! But also the band deserve a go at the big one, we've had a cracking end to last year so i hope we can pull it off.

Can't wait to get down to Torquay, i love it down there. We are travelling from Dorset our band normally stay down and have a right old laugh on the Friday. I'm really looking forward to it.

What annoys me though is all these bands across the country with tiny 4th sections. I saw that in the North area last weekend that 2 out of 8 bands qualified. Down here we get three out of 21! It takes the mickey really considering we have a 1/7 chance and they have a 1/4 chance! Grrrr

What I really want to know is why do the fourth section get to play a test piece that used to be a youth band test piece but the third section have to play a test piece that used to be a championship section test piece???????????????????

Not that there is anything wrong with Tam O'shanter of course! I love its great fun and a good challenge!

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away Divertimento was a Championship testpiece. In fact I think that all the test pieces for this year's area have at one time been a Championship testpiece.

Thankyou for your words of encouragement for Soundhouse, we're really enjoying Variations and are not really going there to beat anyone in particular but rather to do ourselves justice on a very testing peice.
Good luck to all the Devon bands especially and looking forward to socialising with our friendly rivals (and my old band!)Lympstone again.

Is it this Saturday already? Quick where did I put my test piece, time for some serious practice. Anybody seen my Tenor Horn? Where's my valve oil? 21 bands in my section? Good grief, we won't be finished till past my bedtime! I predict that the winners will come from the first and last 2 or 3 bands. The adjudicator will be watching the rugby for the middle of the contest.
