Its a shame about the white stick,as i for one have had many good times whilst playing under your direction in bands. You have always maintained and indeed set a high standard, and rehearsals have been hard work and a real pleasure.
Cheers Sid.

Fourth Section

Sunday 13 March

Draw: 10.00 & 12.00
Adjudicator: Malcolm Brownbill

3. Market Rasen RPC - B. Mathews, 6, 176
4. Kirkby Colliery Welfare - H. Thomas, 15, 175

As the V.W. is one of my favourites, I had a surprisingly enjoyable day yesterday and caught all of the performances. The surprising part was the standard and I have to say, with two or three exceptions, I thought the bands coped really well with piece. For me (I had to go before the summing-up and results) it was the slow variation that sorted them out along with the quiet start to the final variation and judging it so as not to run out of steam at the end, however, I did get the top six but not necessarilly in the right order! I did think that Foresters gave the most consistant performance but the best interpretation of the score came from Gary Sleath. Well done to everyone, especially the finalists.

I have just played at my first Area Contest & really enjoyed it. Rushden Town Band came 13th - not bad when you consider that we haven't been able to go since 2000 & this time last year we only had about 10 players. Today we had 28 on stage!

Well done to Matlock today - a superb result.

We came 10th, not bad considering it is our first crack at the Areas since 1998!

Would like to say on behalf of Matlock, a big thankyou to all those who have congratulated us - the band is ecstatic (if you were there yesterday, I am sure you will agree our cheering is even louder than our playing... though less tuneful!)

I think other band members would want to post similar thanks... but they are most likely still drinking!!!

Well done to the other qualifying bands too - lets put on a good show at the finals for the Midlands area.

Craig - I *think* it could be Matlock and Kirkby that will be promoted this time but thats just on my calculations.

Came 7th. Happy with performance. Well done to Matlock who were excellent.

Well done Daniel, not like you to not ring with the results - had to text Colin for the information. Looks like your still going to be in the top two of the table for next year though so still another chance to get up to 3rd.

Thanks Roger for your kind words! To say that Wellington were over the moon with the results is putting it mildly! I think we were possibly even louder than Matlock at our 2nd place!
Can't wait for Harrogate now, congratulations to all who qualified see you there!

Did anyone listen to Ireland yesterday? I wanted to be there but couldn't.

I heard it was a good day and some good playing from all bands.

Sorry. Had no phone credit, and all my money went on beer.
