I want to speak for all us MD's who have one rehearsal per week and as many jobs as everyone else- I like Frank Bernaerts! Well, some of it. Sometimes his arranging can be, well, basic to say the least but some of it is great! How many bands have entertained people with YMCA? Or played The Mission? Or One Moment in Time? I guarrantee every band at some point or other has pulled out some Bernaerts as a concert filler, and why the hell not!! He serves a very important purpose- easy music that everyone knows and likes. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that you don't use a Bernaerts arrangement to show off the technical side of your band. Use his stuff for what it's intention is- ENTERTAINMENT.
Plus I've just listened to the clip of Swing When You're Winning and think it will be a really entertaining non taxing piece for my band- I think I'll buy it!
