Sunday Bandstand weekly brass band programme 6 August 2017

Hello Everyone

Here is your weekly fix of music from the world of brass bands coming to you direct from Sunday Bandstand, which is produced and presented by Chris Helme, a two hour show with a diverse choice of music that will suit everyone's taste. The show comes to you from Lightcliffe here in the UK, which is about four miles from Brighouse, West Yorkshire.

We have some great bands for you this week and some fine soloists. A highlight is a wonderful performance from Alan Morrison, a top flight cornet player for more years than most will remember. He has been the principal cornet for both Grimethorpe Colliery Band and Brighouse and Rastrick Band, for the last two years he has been the soprano cornet whilst at Brighouse. His arrangement and performance of Eva Cassidy’s version of ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow‘ will make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end – a truly fabulous arrangement and wonderful performance.

It was whilst I was emailing Alan to compliment him on this performance that I discovered he has just recently retired from playing and conducting at the highest level. He will still be involved in adjudicating when asked so he has not faded away altogether.

On behalf of everyone at Sunday Bandstand and Alan's fans around the brass band world we wish him a long and happy retirement.
