Hello Brass Banders
Welcome to another two hours of brass band music for some wonderful bands and soloists.
We are now going through difficult times with the Corvid-19 with all things brass band now being cancelled. Many bands will be going through difficulties with no rehearsals, little to no income and the 'bills' have still to be paid.
Keep practicing it could be a long time before bands get back together again.
Before the show starts, I ask you all to take care, keep well and please don't buy that much from the supermarket with the inevitable consequence of parts of it binned.
Enjoy the show.
Alfred Ashpole b:1892 - d:1990 was a well-known adjudicator, composer and writer on musical topics, probably best known for his correspondence courses. Particularly successful with candidates for conducting examinations, he published a book of specimen questions. He was a key figure during the early years of the NABBC and for a time was in charge of its Adjudicator's Training Scheme. He composed a number of pieces - both serious and light - some of which he published himself.
He studied at the Guildhall School and then with such well known figures in the band world as Denis Wright and James Ord Hume, it is not surprising that his compositions includes the brass band suites Hinchingbroke and Suite Ancienne.
On this recording is his march White Heritage, played by St Austell Band. On this photograph Alfred Ashpole is on the left with the violin.
