Hello Brass Banders

Welcome to this week’s show. Once again I have chosen a wide and diverse choice of concert programme for you. With some top class soloists which includes a baritone solo this week dating back to 1990 – a rare event back in those days. The soloist is Anne Murphy who is still active in the world of brass bands 27 years on. Only now she is one of the very few female conductors conducting a championship section band – Bathgate Band, West Lothian in Scotland - The Bathgate Band Having successfully taken Bathgate back to the championship section following the recent National Brass Band Championship Regional Finals in Scotland – congratulations to Anne and all the team at Bathgate.

Enjoy the show

STEPHEN BULLA began his musical instruction at age six, growing up in a musical household, his father played tuba and mother played piano. He eventually graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied trombone and Composition/Arranging.

In 1980 he successfully auditioned for the position of Staff Arranger to "The President's Own" United States Marine Band and Chamber Orchestra in Washington DC. For the next 30 years he provided musical scores for the White House beginning with the Reagan era until 2010.

Working alongside film score legend John Williams he has transcribed music from many of his most famous film sound tracks. His commissioned concert works are performed and recorded internationally. The Dutch, British, Swiss and New Zealand Brass Band Championship organizations have all commissioned test pieces.

We have two of his compositions on this week's show - Enjoy...
