Hello Brass Banders

Apologies for not being able to be with you last week - we had joiners in the house fitting new doors and there was just too much noise to do the recording. The doors are all fitted now so the show is back to normal.

This week we have some fab soloists with Roger Webster playing as a guest soloist with an overseas band and a solo that I have not heard before. A duet that will be rarely heard which features a tenor horn and a baritone, with some top class playing it is certainly a piece that should be played more. A euphonium feature with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain in 1995, playing a piece that all euphonium players will be familiar with and one that dates back to 1946 in the world of brass bands.. We have another treat with a bass trombone solo, we have heard this player on a number of occasions. As some one was heard to comment not long ago you have to hear this quality of playing to believe it...

So without further ado lets get on with the show.

Jean Baptiste Senaillé (23 November 1687 in Paris – 15 October 1730 idem) was a French born Baroque composer and violin virtuoso. His father was a member of Les Vingt-quatre Violons du Roi. Senaillé studied under Jean-Baptiste Anet, Giovanni Antonio Piani and in Italy under Tomaso Antonio Vitali and imported Italian musical techniques and pieces into the French court. He wrote around 50 violin sonatas. He is most well-known for a fast 2/4 movement from one of these sonatas, Allegro Spiritoso, which has had versions published transcribed for a wide variety of instruments, from violoncello to bassoon to euphonium.
In 1946 it was arranged for euphonium and brass band by Dr. Dennis Wright and is featured on this show with the euphonium section of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain with MD Roy Newsome in 1995.
