I've been working away during the last week to arrange a solo for BBb Bass and this is what I've decided on ... should be fun if anyone's interested. I've never heard this contrabassoon solo written for soloist and brass band before. Only basic scoring techniques used in this one!
I've recently had one of our BBb Bass USA cousins getting in touch with me asking me to raise the pitch of the solo up a fourth, as the present pedals would make it awkward for 5-valve non-compensating BBb tuba players to play. With the character of the solo to be considered, I feel it's okay as it is set (loyal to the contrabassoon part, apart from where I have elaborated a little!). I have linked the solo pdf copy for anyone to try it out and give a little feedback. There is also a youtube link below to demonstrate what happens when it is transposed ... not exactly what I feel is a grumbling old bear! :-?
