For those in London and the south-east who knew Roger, I'm very sad to say that he unfortunately passed away after suffering a heart attack last Saturday.
Roger, a former trumpeter with the National Youth Orchestra came to London in the 1960s to study law and played (I only just learned this!) principal cornet for a time with Fulham Brass Band. He transferred to euphonium soon after joining the Lewisham Concert Band in the late 1960s, where he remained a regular member until his death.
He was also a regular in the London 'park' scene, i.e. if there was an ad hoc band or band short of a euphonium in the days when regular concerts took place in London's Royal parks, the chances are he was there!
A fine player, a fine musician, and a fun character, he will be sorely missed.
