Ragtimes & Habaneras

I used to have the original Grimethorpe Aria LP on which this piece was recorded for the first time. I've since lost the LP but not before I was able to put it on CD. I have to admit I didn't transfer Grimethorpe Aria, that's a musical language that just doesn't relate to me; I just don't get it. Besides Ragtimes, the other pieces were Fireworks and Garden Rain.

It will be interesting to see what's on the final CD in the Grimethorpe series.

There's also the orchestral brass version by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Brass on the 2007 CD Brass.

Thanks Paul. Hopefully I will win the bid for the one currently for sale on ebay but if I don't i will borrow it for a listen!

- the triple Sun Life CD package is often on sale on eBay and well worth adding to your collection ... they are all good recordings in my opinion!

Hope I've got the spelling right! Is there a CD recording of the above piece? I can't seem to find one.

Thanks

As well as the three recordings mentioned above, you will also find a reworking for tentet (by David Purser) on the London Brass CD Tea for Two, although I have to say (in my opinion) that the composer's own reworking on the Concertgebouw Brass's CD is superior. The London Brass CD is quite old now but a copy pops up on Ebay occasionally.

It is sold by Tredegar music - if you can get in touch with them - you may well pick up all three cds for a bargain price.

And as if by magic, a copy has just appeared!

It's well played but the interpretation is much different to the Howarth/Grimey performance of the '70s.
