The BHK (UK) Ltd HORDEN BAND are delighted to announce three substantial additions to the Bands line up.

ANDY MARSH former Principal Euphonium and member of the Ever Ready Band has joined BHK on the top chair. Andy as a youngster played with the County Youth Band and National Youth Band of Great Britain. His first senior Band being North Skelton, and after many happy and successful years moved onto the Northumberland Police Band where he was appointed to the Principal Euphonium Chair, a position he held for two years and gaining valuable experience. Andy joined Ever Ready as Principal Euphonium following the retirement of that great servant to Ever Ready Melvyn McCrea in 1995 and held the position for 6 years until 2001. His enforced departure was due to his employers the Nissan Motor Company requiring him to spend extended periods in Japan. Andy’s last appearance for Ever Ready was at the Royal Albert Hall in 2002 where he was the outstanding Euphonium player of the day on Masquerade having been asked to play at a few days notice due to unforeseen circumstances.

His movements abroad have now been reduced greatly and he feels he can now commit himself once again to the Brass Band movement and we are delighted to welcome him to BHK.

STEVE CLINTON also joins the BHK Band as a former Ever Ready player where he held the position of 2nd Euphonium for 21 years from 1981 to 2002 having to resign due to work commitments. He started his playing with the Consett Schools Band under the direction of David Johnson. Stevens first senior Band was A.M.O.C.O whom he joined at the age of 14 years on 2nd Euphonium moving on to the Northumberland Police Band where his stay was quite short. Steven joined the Ever Ready when only 16 years of age in 1981 where he established himself as a top class Euphonium player. He was assistant to the renowned Melvyn McCrea for 14 years and then on Melvyns retirement supported Andy Marsh for the next 6 years during this time establishing a tremendous rapport and understanding with Andy. It is because of this special relationship that they both decided to return to Banding and join the BHK Band and their former Band Manager Ray Hutchinson. Their experience will undoubtedly assist greatly in maintaining the bands progress and helping to establish it as a Championship Section Band in the Northern Region.

Also joining the BHK Band is IAN HARRIS as a front row cornet player. Ian was for over 25 years Principal cornet with the Easington Colliery Band enjoying many contest successes.

He served his early years with the Murton Colliery Band quickly moving up the ranks to the Principal cornet chair. To seek further experience and improvement he moved on to the Easington Colliery Band where he occupied the Top chair for 25 years. After excellent and dedicated service he moved on to the G.T Peterlee Band as a consequence of work commitments occupying the seat of Assistant Principal cornet for the past 3 years. Still being very ambitious and wanting to gain further experience and success applied to join the BHK Band and has accepted a position on the cornet front row.

All three will be making their debuts at the Durham Brass Band Association Contest on the 1st February.

A further positional change in the Band involves Tina Mortimer who has played Repiano Cornet for the past 8 months joining from Yorkshire Imperial Urquhart Travel Band in 2003. Tina moves on to Flugel Horn where it is hoped she will establish her self as a top class soloist in the Band.

The Band are currently advertising for a Soprano Cornet player and Percussionist and would be most pleased to receive any enquiries from interested players.
