Neighbours Darlings? Peers through One's Elizabethan leaded windows into the distant parkland and rolling hills. Totters off to the West Wing Tower with cornet to frighten the bats.

Stanley, no I don't but I do use a practice mute and I never play after 8pm. I also live in the countryside and don't have many close neighbours but those I do have are pretty nice and I'd talk to them and work something out if it was a problem.

As there is also a violinist in the family we have a pact and do joint practice sessions (in separate rooms!). Our theory is the noise is on for a shorter time span although the mix of Schindlers List and the Arban is not for the faint hearted.

"Did you like my pizzicato, dad?"

"Um - I'll have a Margarita, please - with anchovies and mushrooms!"
