All the best Tojo and everyone else in the North Walian bands. The narrow mindedness of the Welsh Brass Band Association in not moving the contest around Wales has certainly decimated the number of bands attending from North mid and West Wales, lets hope the winners are still well distributed across the principality

Third Section:
Saturday 19th March

Test Piece: A Little Light Music (Philip Wilby)
Adjudicator: C. Brian Buckley

1. Goodwick (Matthew Jenkins)
2. Treherbert & District (Craig Roberts)
3. Tata Steel (Port Talbot) (Colin Hogg)
4. Crwbin (Andrew Jones)
5. Severn Tunnel (A. Harris)
6. Newport Borough (Ivor Barnett)
7. Briton Ferry (Dr Christian Jenkins)
8. Ogmore Valley (A. Jones)

Best Instrumentalist: Fion Williams (soprano) - Goodwick

Thanks to 4br...

My maths say it's Goodwick & Treherbert up (8pts & 9pts respectively) with Holywell & Royal Oakeley down (19.5 & 21). Severn needed 5th to stay up and managed it, just!!

First Section:
Saturday 19th March

Test Piece: Le Carnival Romain (Hector Berlioz arr. Frank Wright)
Commence: at the conclusion of Section 2
Adjudicator: C. Brian Buckley

1. Pontardulais Town (Paul Jenkins)*
2. City of Cardiff (Mellingriffith) (Gareth Ritter)*
3. Tylorstown (Gary Davies)
4. Burry Port (Michael Thorne)
5. Penclawdd Brass (Tony Small)
6. Rogerstone (Julian Jones)
7. Abergaveney Borough (David Griffith)
8. Parc & Dare (Mike Ford)
9. Deiniolen (Gavin Saynor)
10. Wrexham Brass (Wayne Ruston)

Best Instrumentalist: Matthew Jenkins (euphonium) - Pontardulais

*Two bands qualify for the finals

And by my maths that means Pontardulais & City of Cardiff are up (7 & 9.5 pts respecticely) with Cwmaman & Newbridge down (both 18.5 pts), this assumes that Newbridge haven't been removed already in which case Parc & Dare (17.5 pts) might be in trouble

Four bands were demoted last year and that's is the reason there are only 7 bands in the Championship.

Gutted is an under statement. I've been on the rough end of some bad results over the years but this one stinks bad. My band have spent hours rehearsing, time and money travelling to band, a 400 mile round trip to Swansea all paid for out of their own pockets just to perform a 9 minute piece and support a dying contest.

Great Performance Everyone! Last Place, What a Joke!

Gutted - Yeah, understatement of the year.
Try: Frustrated, Disillusioned, disheartened, thoroughly exhausted and Pi***d off after reorganising my life and my family so I can make rehearsals!
EVERYONE puts their heart and soul into putting on an excellent performance for any competition that we are preparing for.
I used to go to contest believing that the best band would win (and I am not saying that they didn't btw), but I also expect that the adjudicator would make a fair and impartial judgement about the performance. I used to look up to these people but I am sorry, yesterday he got it very wrong. Why was there only one man in the box when other regions have two, thus providing a more balanced and accurate nationwide result?
I also think there is no need for the "rottweiler" approach to people warming up - GET US A WARM UP ROOM PLEASE!!!! then there would be no need to shout at people!!! Go on, smile Mr Steward, get it over with!

Rant over! (for now)

Can't agree more!:clap:Thought you played really good, and didn't deserve that last place. OK, maybe it wasn't enough to be a qualifying performance but it was definitely a top 5 performance. The first 3min didn't quite deliver, but after that the playing was really good. Heard quite a few poor performances after your performance that shouldn't have come where they did. But, that's contesting, I'm sure you'll bounce back at the Senior Trophy. Congratulations Pontarddulais and City of Cardiff! Also nice seeing the Welsh language being used on stage too....:p
