Orchestras only go through about 10 pieces in a year tho, and bands go through hundreds. i think band conductors expect more than orchestral conductors, that is why band conductors are more strict n scream and shout more!

Im afraid with the greatest of respect your totally wrong on this one!!!! :? Orchestras go though thousands of pieces a year. A band like the Halle for instance may do more than 4 progrmmes in a busy week, adding up to 15+ pieces. That might include huge symphonies as well as ovatures and concertos. The players work really hard, especially in the uk. Orchstras have hundreds of concerts a year, a band might do 70, and thats about it. And that would be considered really busy. Of course its not their main job but still, its not as taxing as trying to play Mahler :? 1, Shost 5 and Schumann 3 in the same week!!!!!
