Fair enough, but would you go as far to make her cry?
Sometimes we need to have things pointed out to us and harshness is the only way to get through, and sometimes people cry awfully easy. I just don't understand crying in this context, what could possibly be so bad that it warrants crying. I can't pretend to know what went on in the exchange but is it possible that the student may be under a fari amount of stress and is not in fact coping as well as she thinks and that this lead to such an emmotional reaction? Self examination is tough, it's also tough to feel you have be harsh in order to help someone.
Okay, well it's not a point of her not being commited to bands etc. This is in a situation when it was one on one away from anyone else where her teacher railroaded her for not being able to do the work set over a week, and then kicking off because she works 2nights a week from 6 - 9 then she has college work to do, plus any band work plus her teacher's work and at this particular time it involved her doing 3 extra things on top.
I understand the teacher having a go due to lack of commitment, but a bit of comapssion and understanding to balance it out on their part.
I've been subject to a shouting at because i have a job, but at the end of the day, your mum and dad nag to get a job, then when you have one, your teacher shouts at you for not being commited enoguh then says that too much college work isn't an excuse.
As for the missing band issue from igg, i rarely miss band, but when you book the sunday off (in a restaurant this is a crime!!) for a contest and then they put your name on the rota to work during the week to make up for it, and it just so happens those nights are band nights then what would you prefer me to do? Work on the say of a contest, or miss 2 rehearsals?
