Mouthpiece extractor

Does anyone in the South Wales area have a mouthpiece extractor that I could borrow? I urgently need to get my own mouthpiece out of a band instrument.

put a pair of rubber gloves on, run the shank of the instrument under hot water tap (making sure the hot water is not running onto the mouthpiece) hold instrument as close to the mouthpiece as possible, hold mouthpiece with other and twist, keeping continual pressure. Usually the change of temperature will cause the instrument to expand and release the mouthpiece. Works every time (well nearly)

If there's an instrument repair shop nearby, they may remove it for free for you (my local shop will), or for a small fee. It's a 60 second job with the right equipment.

recipe for disaster that (speaking as someone who fixes loads of ripped off lead pipes)

Take it to a brass specialist (we're probably a bit far away) even if it costs a couple of quid (we charge £3) it'll be far less than an expensive repair.

Thanks for all your help. Panic over - I have just found out that one of the players at band has an extractor so problem solved.

I thought most bands have a mouthpiece extractor knocking around, if not ask around at, as already mentioned brass specialists. At a push your local music shop may have one! Don't use a wrench or vice :S It can have serious consequences.....

Had to use my Black & Decker workbench to separate the two bits of Mog's Warburton...if he lets em get stuck again he's gonna get a clip round the ear....

Managed to drop my trombone slide while putting it away the other day and the mouthpiece is now stuck. Anyone know of a music shop in Cardiff that can help??
