Does anyone know where i could get hold of a recording of the trombone solo with piano accompaniment from Mahler's 3rd Symphony?

I can't say I've come across one. As it's derived from the first movement of the symphony and the thematic material is derived from two sections about fifteen minutes apart, it's been treated with contempt.
In my opinion, your best bet would be to listen to the full orchestral version. The whole thing's great, but the first movement's one of the best.

Be warned when playing it. I did it for my grade 8 a few years back, and also for a solo contest, both times the examiner/adjudicator marked me down because they didn't feel the arrangement of an orchestral extract worked, which i think was a bit harsh with the exam as it is one of the set pieces.
