Did any of u see the John Adams conducting at the Proms? his dedication to the 9/11 attacks was played, 'On the Transmigration of souls' It's such a brilliant piece written by a brilliant man!

Just wondered if anyone saw it and what they thought of his piece.

I'm a big John Adams fan!!! (Peter Graham introduced me to 'Short Ride in a Fast Machine' after saying my music didn't sound a million miles off it- been glued to his stuff since...)

Missed the Proms with him in though... D'oh!
Anyone got a recording? :)

Let's all chip in and commission him to compose something for band. A thousand of us, tenner each? Matching funding from the Lottery. Sorted.

Since none of those responsible for commissioning test pieces seem to see beyond the end of their noses so far as composers are concerned I wish someone would.

Good point SM.

We played a lot of 'modern' music at college. John Adams was certainly one of the most listenable and enjoyable to play.

I agree entirely! Just listened to the piece on Radio 3 and it's absolutely fabulous. Had the chance to play some of his music this year in wind band at University (Short Ride) and I was absolutely fascinated. I went and listened to some more of his works and they are absolutely brilliant-surely some of his works would transcribe for brass band as they stand. As for Mr Mutes idea, we should be doing this more often with the other, lesser known composers for brass band, introducing them to the medium and getting something out of it ourselves to play. If bands can afford to pay £30 for a piece of music then surely we could wangle something together for comosers as good as John Adams....

I did listen to the repeat but, although I like some of John Adams' work, I'm afraid this one did nothing for me, and I turned it off half way through.
