I'm not sure if anyone would know Jim on here, but those that played in the RAF Voluntary bands may do. Sadly, Jim passed away last week.

He was the Musical Director of the RAF Waddington Voluntary Band for the whole time I was there from 1990-1996, and retired a year or so after that. I seem to remember that he was ex-military himself, so others may know of him from there.

He was an excellent MD, and a real character. He was diabetic and often needed the odd swig of lucazade to pep himself up. One rehearsal he complained to the band that while he was sorting some music out earlier in the day, he'd tried to take a drink of Lucazade, but the lid was on so tight that he'd had to open it with a set of valve pliers. Our then Euph player, Gordon Can't-remember-surname, said "that's funny - that's what I used to tighten it up!"

There was plenty of fun and games with that band ;)

Sadly, Jim's health detereorated and he developed Hodginson's Disease.

Love and comiserations to his family and friends.

Thanks to Lorraine for letting me know.
