Grand Shield - Tallis Variations by Philip Sparke
Tallis Variations was commissioned by the British Federation of Brass Bands for the European Championship in Birmingham, 2000, and proved to be an immensely popular work for bands and audience.
The contest that day was won by Yorkshire Building Society under conductor Dr David King.
The first two placings in the Grand Shield event will be invited to play at the British Open next September.
Senior Cup - Paganini Variations by Philip Wilby
Paganini Variations was used as a test for the first time at the British Open in 1991, Grimethorpe Colliery won by under the baton of Frank Renton. Paganini Variations will test the worthiness of all sections of the band with a mixture of extravagantly virtuosic display, and serene and passionate melody.
The first two placings in this section will be eligible to compete in the Grand Shield event in 2004.
Senior Trophy - Tournament for Brass by Eric Ball
Tournament for Brass was the British Open test in 1954 and features small ensemble playing within the band. The winning band in 1954 was Munn and Felton Band under musical director Stanley Boddington.
The first two placings in this section will be eligible to compete in the Senior Cup event in 2004.
