Fund Raising

We have the possibility of two over seas trips next year. Fund raising will have to play a big part in making this happen.........help!..........any ideas? :idea:

We allocate certain fees from certain jobs to go towards the fund,but this wont be enough for two trips!

So if you have any fund raising ideas that have worked for you,please let me know. :lol:

We held a "mock auction" on Saturday to raise money for the corps band, and finished up with well over a thousand pounds. People had either donated goods for auction, or had offered services such as gardening, walking the dog etc. We were also fortunate in that a number of local businesses had made offers, as well as the local mayor and MP. There were also one or two who had made cash donations.

One or two things went for real bargain prices on the night, and I'm sure we would have raised a lot more if there had been more people bidding. The hall was open for viewing from 4pm with the auction starting at 7, with refreshments on sale, which also boosted the coffers. Apart from the money-raising side, it was a good social evening together.

Heres one that can work but needs the co operation of several bands in the area and a friendly local club. Get approximatly 6 bands together. Find a local club that will let you have the concert room free on a quiet night. (we used a tuesday when we did this).Point out that you're going to bring at least 60 people into the club on a night when they're normally quiet. Once a fortnight each band takes it in turn to put a concert on. We charged £2 entry and had bingo and a raffle in the break. Each band had to sell 40 tickets for their own concert and 20 tickets for all the other bands concert. This gives you £100 plus whatever you make on the bingo and raffle.

It's always good to remember a few things when looking for funding. You can't always be targetting the same audience as they will get fed up of it. Below are a few suggestions but the list is endless.........

Sponsor a player - this relies on you having a good local following. Each player can be sponsored for the trip, you set the price. If you set it at £10 32 x £10 = £320 (easy money). In return for their money the sponsor gets to meet their chosen player after a concert for a few minutes and you could print a thank you in a programme. (The audience of local concerts are the targets here).

Quiz for the players. It costs £1 to enter and prize money of £10, so only a small profit on this one but it's fun to do. You have 50 or 100 questions and all of the answers are numbered and the inititals given accordingly. For example 99 R B = 99 Red Balloons.

Official charity raffle - perhaps Winter Draw? You need to print proper official charity raffle tickets. The idea is that you approach local businesses to donate a raffle prize (in return they get free advertising on the tickets). Ideally you need decent prizes and then sell them over a long term period to all and sundry. This one normally rases quite a substantial amount.

Car Boot Sale - Know anyone with a bit of land or maybe a nice landlord with a big car park! Advertise it with posters and word of mouth so relatively cheap to host and then the band charges £5 per boot and dependant upon participants you could make £100 with 20 cars. This also targets a totally different audience, people who normally have nothing to do with the band. As they stand to make money from exhibiting then they are pretty willing.
