From The Bandroom , Skelmersdale Prize Band, 10pm Tuesday 25th June 2019

Staff member

In “From The Bandroom” this month we travel to the wrong side of the Pennines to the bandroom of the Skelmersdale Prize Band (or Skem Band). Skelmersdale Temperance Band was formed in 1878, but these days, the bandroom has a bar!

The band competes in the fourth section of the North West area, and had a great contest result earlier in the year winning the Brass At The Guild contest in Preston..

The band’s MD, Ben Coulson started out as a cornet player with the band, and has recently returned as MD after studying under Philip McCann in Huddersfield and enjoying Grand Shield contest success playing with Hammonds.

We’ll hear an entertaining programme of music and chat to Ben, to players and volunteers to get a feel for what makes the Skem Band tick.

From The Bandroom with the Skelmersdale Prize Band, 10pm, Tuesday 25th June on East Leeds FM.
