In a slightly different “From The Bandroom” this month we feature two small brass groups both originating from the Royal Northern College Of Music.
Cobalt Brass, has the classic brass quintet format with two trumpets, french horn, trombone and tuba. The Fake Horns are a very unusual grouping of four tenor horn players. Most of the players come from a brass band background, many having played with the National Youth Brass Band Of Great Britain, and some are still involved with top bands such as Fodens and Hammonds.
We’ll hear an entertaining mix of standards and original music for brass ensemble, some of it specially commissioned by these groups.
In order to enjoy the programme to its fullest, you will need to listen with a friend and have a pack of playing cards to hand!
