In “From The Bandroom” this month we visit the Rothwell Temperance band. Originally formed as the Rothwell Temperance Junior band in 1984, they worked their way up through the sections, eventually winning the Yorkshire area championship at St George’s Hall in 2009.

Currently the most successful contesting band in the Leeds area, with one Yorkshire areas and two Grand Shield victories in the last few years, Rothwell are the natural choice for the prestigious Lord Mayor’s Carol Concert at Leeds Town Hall each Christmas.

MD Dave Roberts has put together a superb programme of music for us and we’ll be talking to him and to band members to find out how Rothwell stay at the top of their game.

Just for fun, in the trailer we've put three short extracts from the programme. Comment below if you know what they are, and please, no spoilers from the band!

From The Bandroom with the Rothwell Temperance Band, 10pm, Tuesday 22nd October on East Leeds FM.

Tonight's "From The Bandroom" is an absolute cracker, with a superb programme of music, very well played and some great interviews giving the story and background of the band.

Nobody's yet correctly identified the three pieces in the "Name that Tune" section about 50 seconds into the trailer. You've until 10pm today to give it a go!

Here at the programme we've been helping the Sound Engineering department at Salford University with some research into stereo microphone techniques, and did some experiments during our session with Rothwell. We've made a short programme to explain what we've been doing, which immediately follows "From The Bandroom".
