Central Bedfordshire Council, which hosts the Bedfordshire Youth Music Service, has announced its decision to cut the funding it currently gives the service to ZERO from April 2012. As a non-statutory provision, music services all over the country are likely to be in the firing line as local authorities come under pressure to make savings.

Michael Rose OBE, conductor of Bedfordshire's youth orchestra for many years, and former president of the National Association of Youth Orchestras, is leading a campaign against this cut-to-zero policy: details at http://michaelerose.moonfruit.com/#/campaign/4545173370

At a time when Education Secretary Michael Gove is saying "every child should have the opportunity to play an instrument and sing", we've got to be as vocal as we can about this if we are to prevent it from happening - I don't live in Bedfordshire, but I grew up in a county with a music service just like it; didn't you?

Please follow the above link and do what you can to spread the word.

Thankyou.
