What are some of the standard/ great tuba solos in the brass band literature?

Badinage (Norbury)
Largo al Factotum (Rossini, arr. Farr)
Teddy Bear's Picnic (???)
Tuba Concerto (Gregson)
Tuba Concerto (RVW)

Honorable Mention perhaps?
Bass in the Ballroom (Newsome)
Frosty the Snowman (arr. S.Smith)
Hoch (???)
Impromptu for Tuba (Barry)
In the Hall of the Mountain King (arr. Geldard)

Celestial Morn - Leslie Condon

Has anyone transcribed all or some of the Vaughn Williams Concerto for band?

There's a good arrangement by Philip Littlemore that James Gourlay has recorded, among others.

Both the Ellerby and Horowitz concerti are very good

Yes, a published one by Phil Catelinet for Eb Bass. I don't know the name of the British publisher off the top of my head, but I remember using it with the NYSB in 1992 in the UK. I did one for Bb Bass many of years ago and no longer have the music, but it was recorded on a CD (available from WoB) by Reading SA Band a year or two ago.

We played it when Jonathan Mallyon was our principal EEb, and it's on the Williams Fairey Diamond Jubilee cd, played (excellently) on BBb, arranged Blair.

Czardas is fantastic. Can't anywhere near play it, but I guess that's why I like it so much!

Few simpler ones for the young/novice Tubist - still lots of fun though

Forty Fathoms
The Ploughboy
Tijuana Tuba

Wish there were more decent BBb Bass solos though. Our Eb cousins get all the limelight.

Tuba Solos

VARIATIONS ON A WELSH THEME by Peter Kneale
although for a Sop Cornet or Eb Horn does sound impressive on an EEb Tuba with plenty of expressive style and Melodic sound

Cappricio by Robert Newton is all class

Rodney Newton's "Capriccio" is pretty good as well, but I doubt if he'd be much good as Long John Silver ;)
