Easy Road Marches

Hi Folks,

Can you help me with some suggestions for very easy, sightreadable Road Marches for a job our band has got later on this year please? We've already got Death or Glory, Army of the Nile & Punchinello, and I plan on getting Slaidburn, but we need about 4 more.

Here is a couple you could maybe try,

Colonel Bogey, King Cotton, National Emblem, On the Quarter Deck,
Blaze Away, Voice of the Guns, Great Little Army,
Washington Grays, Semper Fidelis, Old Comrades,
The Standard of Saint George, Steadfast and True,
The Middy,

You could also try a couple of contest marches such as

The Contestor, March Brilliante, Ravenswood, Glemdene,

I hope these are of some help. I will try to think of some more.

It's not actually that easy thinking about it......not when you're trying to co-ordinate your feet anyway.....

Thanks for the suggestions so far - as I said, we're getting Slaidburn, but things like The Contestor are too tricky for what we need.

Belphagor was on the first programme I played with Coventry Festival Band!

Back on topic: good marches already listed, esp Standard of St George. There are also some Salvation Army marches that are good to march to, such as Star Lake, Montreal Citadel, The Wellingtonian.

"Wingates" is a fairly easy road march and sounds quite good as well.

Originally written for Wingates Temperence Band quite a few years ago.

Street Marches

All the good ones have been mentioned, especially Standard of St. George (a real cracker) and Slaidburn.
New Colonial,Washington Greys and Sons of the Brave are pretty good.
You'd better have a pretty good Bass Section to play Army of the Nile on the hoof !!!

Kenilworth is an easy march to play and quite appropriate considering where you live :lol: :lol:

I go along with Sons Of The Brave, also 1914, El Dorado, Officer Of The Day, Imperial Echo's and Thunderbirds March Copy is brilliant but needs a good trombone section.

"Trafalgar" has a real "Tonk it out" bass solo.
"Thin Red Line" is another good one, but if your Cornets are a bit "Iffy" it can be embarrassing !!
Has anyone mentioned "National Emblem"? - It's the one where everyone waits for the Solo Trom to "Clip" the high note in the first 20 odd bars !!
