Is there a mouthpiece that might thinken things up a bit without sacrificing range??

Hiya!
with great respect, if you find that
ANY mouthpiece gives you better range than any other particular one they you are doing 'the range thing' inefficiently.
What tends to happen with ALL brass players and mouthpieces, is that they are
TOO mouthpiece dependant.
What does this mean?.....well....
If you are able to produce the same range on your lip buzz that you can
ACTUALLY play on the instrument then you are
NOT mouthpiece dependant ...
MOUTHPIECE DEPENDANCY
ie. using the rim as a crutch to support the embouchure muscles to enable lip vibrations to take place.

Having said that, YAMAHA student models insts. are Fine! ...and so are the mpc's [I use one on flugal]...but....you could give the guys/gals a try on the SPARX equivalent size. It's a better design and MORE tone.
It's a bit like driving a 1.6L FORD ESCORT [YAMAHA]... and swapping it for ...
a 1.6 BMW [SPARX] ---- It's the same size but a better build / design
I hope some of this helps....[I'm not on commission with sparx]
