Quite happy for them to be being married, the only thing blocking it seems to be the Church of England thing, and that is the really disgraceful thing. Why should the monarch be head of a religious group, thus giving it advantages over others? Church and state should be separate.

(If people are so against him being King, can we have a referenda on it? Or maybe just an election for head of state?)

Is the wedding being paid for entirely by private money? (He earns 6 million from the Duchy of Cornwall.)

Why? Disagreement with the whole idea of an unelected head of state or for him behaving like many normal plebians have?

Though I totally disagree with the monarchy, if we do have to have it I can't see that he has done anything to forefeit his position.

I'm confused as to the reasons why people don't want Charles to be King (newsflash: we don't have a choice and neither does he). At least Charles makes an attempt to connect with modern culture and has views (albeit sometimes misinformed) on a variety of issues that concern our modern world. He is a very different person from his mother who I regard as distant and out of touch (unless you like corgis, slippers and bad television). I'd rather have someone who had a view that I disagree with than had no view at all.

Quite right Will.He provides for them all from his own income, and so he should given the tax breaks afforded by sycophantic governments.Wish I could get a tax break too. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he is marrying her as it is financially beneficial for her both now and later.Meanwhile we pay our taxes and he pays part of what [I think] he should.

Happy to be corrected on this, Spanky, but as far as I know, Charlie Boy pays the same rates of income tax as anyone else does with his assets/income. This stems from the time that the Queen started to pay tax, and the rest of the royal family "followed suit".

Of course, whether someone with assets/income the size of Charlie Boy's should pay less than 50% tax at the upper end is another matter.

It has long rankled with me that this Labour Government has never reinstated the super tax as the Labour Party promised it would. (Until it realised that with middle England voting for it in 1997 it would get into power, and so quietly buried it.)

The Lib Dems want to reinstate this concept, so perhaps real socialists will vote for them instead. (Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding)

Will,when the Queen and 'the family' started paying income tax that's all it was.He is exempt from corporation tax and capital gains.The tax expert I saw interviewed on TV the other day estimated that the bridegroom to be saved between 2 and 3 million per year under special arrangements made at the time!!! Nice if you can get it,eh?
I suppose the Tax authorities settled for what they could get, without wrangling for ever and a day, as is usually the case.

No, Yussef was killed off because the actor that played him felt he was being type-cast after his character in All My Neighbour's Horses went the same way. There's certainly a need for decent script-writers out in Tirane.
