We used to have a fairly active Social comittee and band, but it's dropped slightly. I am hoping we can turn it around. But here's some of the band's "faves".
** Miss Municipal Contest ('cuz we're the Gladstone Municipal Band)
Males dress up in drag for a fashion show\ beauty pageant. Many memories and concert ideas
** Monthly suppers.
OK, every night after band, some people hang around for a few then hit the road. However, some people, especially the kids, find this activity runs a little long. So once a month, band finishes early, a nominated section brings in a plate of food, and the drinking, eating and socialising starts early!
** Games Nights
Come along with your fave card/board game. Set it up, and play! Taboo is a popular fave
** BBQ's
Like, d'uh!! Beer and burnt food!!!
** Oktoberfests
This is under discussion for the legal members. Hire a mini bus and head up north the the massive Oktoberfest in Yeppoon. More Beer!!!
(Has anyone worked out the other meaning of GMB yet??????? It should be obvious by now!!)
** Play Station/XBox/LAN nights
Currently being tossed about. I took my PS2 to contest this year (mainly to use as a portable DVD player, but I had some games in too) and the band loved it!! Looking at getting a network/ or multitap night where we can have lots of players and lots of games. Appeals to the new age muso.
** Fishing trips
We live on the Great Barrier reef, and our part-time principal trombonist runs a tackle shop and charter business.........also another good chance to drink beer.
** Bowling
It has been done.......dunno if we could do it again.
** Inter-section Carnival
An idea I've had in my mind for a while, but I doubt we could get to work. Over the course of the month, piut section against section every weekend in numerous events, such as Air Guitar nights or Kareoke, bowling, touch footy and so forth...... AS I said, something I've been thinking about.
That's about it. BTW, GMB's other name (it pops up a lot on ANZAC Day) is Great Mob of Boozers.
