Not as out of date as you might think?

any truth ...
... in the following rumour regarding our future IT?
Management has determined that there is no longer any need for network or software applications support. The goal is to remove all computers from the desktop by Dec. 31st 2002.
Instead, everyone will be provided with an Etch-A-Sketch. There are many sound reasons for doing this:
1. No OS problems.
2. No technical glitches keeping work from being done.
3. No more wasted time reading and writing emails.

Frequently Asked Questions for Etch-A-Sketch Technical Support:

Q: My Etch-A-Sketch has all of these funny little lines all over the screen.
A: Pick it up and shake it

Q. How do I turn my Etch-A-Sketch off?
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q. What's the shortcut for Undo?
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q. How do I create a New Document window?
A. Pick it up and shake it.

Q. How do I set the background and foreground to the same colour?
A. Pick it up and shake it.

Q. What is the proper procedure for rebooting my Etch-A-Sketch
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q. How do I delete a document on my Etch-A-Sketch?
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q. How do I save my Etch-A-Sketch document?
A: Don't shake it.

Etch-A-Sketch Networking..
Message Content:
Several people (all right, one) have asked how these new devices will be networked. They will be connected by PIPES (Personal Information Permanent Exchange System). To send your work to another Etch-A-Sketch, first you must open a PIPE, then TIP (Terminal In Pipe) the Etch-A-Sketch so that the SAND (Server And Network Display) information can go down the PIPE. The data packets with then be routed around the PIPE network by WIND (Wide Inter-Network Driver)and reassembled in the receiving Etch-A-Sketch.
Only Network Engineers have any idea how this bit works.

HTH :)

In the wake of this departmental statement Bill Gate$ has imediately announced.....
Message Content:
the release of 'Windows for Etch-a-sketch'. This will be bought by the department as standard for all machines. The advantages of 'Windows for Etch-a-sketch' are;

1. Your machine will immediately become, unstable, unreliable, and will wipe your sketches without warning, normally just as you complete a very complicated one with diagonal lines and writing etc.

2. Only other 'Windows for Etch-a-sketch' users will be able to look at your documents. The machine will instantly and automatically become incompatable with any non M$ users.

3. The maze overlay will come as standard, to be used as a training tool, but local management will panic and order it to be removed in case large scale anarchy breaks out. (VBG).

4. You will receive built in virus protection, (that is a big roll of double sided sticky tape to hold it to the desk and stop accidental jog erases).

Rumour has it that 'Windows for Etch-a-sketch Millenium plus bonus platinum edition' will be announced shortly afterwards, to enforce Management to immediately upgrade to get the benefits of the new maze overlay (that we can't use) and the different coloured roll of sticky tape.

Further more, it has been stated that anyone caught Etch-a-sketching dodgy material will face serious disciplinary action, assuming the security specialists can make out what the hell you have drawn!!!! (Which would be a first for 'Etch-a-sketch'!!!!!)
