Another e-mail virus....

I received an e-mail from one of my friends today warning of a new virus much like those which are described in other threads.

this is an extract from the e-mail.

Someone is sending out a very cute screensaver of the Budweiser Frogs.
If you download it, you will lose everything! Your hard drive will crash and
someone from the Internet will get your screen name and password!
DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!
It just went into circulation yesterday. Please distribute this message. This is a new, very malicious virus and not many people know about it. This information was announced yesterday morning from Microsoft.. Please share it with everyone that might access the Internet.
AOL has said that this is a very dangerous virus and that there is NO remedy for it at this time.

So take care everyone!!

Dawny, you have received a hoax e-mail. You can usually check these out by going to the Symantec or Mcafee websites (or your own virus checker provider's site).

Thanks for being concerned though!

This is an old(ish) hoax, but there's always new ones on the go.

Typical hoax signs;

"Please forward to all your friends" - i.e. I can't be bothered to write a virus, so please clog up the e-mail system for me.

"Microsoft (or other company) say it's the worst ever" - Microsoft never send warnings by e-mail. As far as I know nor does any other reputable (though you can argue whether M$ are reputable, too!) company.

My favourite is the Irish virus (seeing as it's just been St.Patricks Day!)

>Hi, I'm an Irish virus
>
>Please send this to all your friends, then wipe your hard disk.
>
>Thanks very much.
