A win for music?

My first thought when I heard that the rescheduled British Open contest had been postponed was to fear for the viability of the RNCM Brass Band Festival at the end of this month. If COVID was the reason for the Open postponement, the Festival could not be far behind, given that most of the bands in the Festival were also due to appear in the Open. But at the time of writing, the Festival still seems to be on. Could this be because the bands involved have recognised they have limited rehearsal time and have decided to prioritise the Festival? If so, then good on them! A rare win for the music!

I stand to be corrected, of course...

I spoke too soon. Foden's and Cory have cancelled their appearances, although Cory have been replaced by the Fairey Band, although playing a not very challenging programme. Rex Richardson can't be there to play Peter Graham's new trumpet concerto with Dyke so that programme has changed too. And the Festival Prelude has been cancelled as well. Ho hum....
