Following a poll of the competing bands, the test-piece for the contest will be Dances and Arias by Edward Gregson, which was written for the National Championships of Great Britain in 1984 and used most recently as the test-piece for the 1998 All England Masters.

The existing method of closed adjudication in a single enclosure will operate and David Read and Roy Newsome have been appointed to adjudicate. A third member of the panel may still be appointed.

Details of the gala concert will be released as soon as they are finalised.

Good choices - test piece and adjudicators. Looking forward to it already.

Will the contest be doing away with the pre-draw though? In my opinion, that was a major contributor to the low audience turnout last year.

Les,

The pre-draw suited the bands to certain extent, but for the event as a whole it proved to be an unsatisfactory feature, so this year we'll be doing it with a single draw on the morning of the contest.
