    Scottish championships predictions

We seem to discuss this every year :-) SBBA did have a couple of proposals on the table for discussion recently, here is my favourite - Promotion & Relegation Promotion and relegation are the perennial favourite discussions among bandsmen. The current promotion system rewards the...

Fife Charities Band Association Contest 28th Sept

Glad you all enjoyed it :-) Thanks also to both adjudicators, David Thornton and Stuart Black. Both of them did a very professional job at this year's contest.

    Paddy's Scottish Area - 2013

As JM said, it hasn't yet been discussed with the member bands yet. SBBA are preparing a paper on issues such as grading (and possibly registration, guest rules etc. as well) which will go out to the Executive Commitee soon, then be passed to the bands for discussion before being voted on at an...

    Paddy's Scottish Area - 2013

I agree, it would be a great contest. Something exciting to replace the existing Cup/Shield contest the day before the Scottish Open.

    Paddy's Scottish Area - 2013

That's exactly the reason why it's not used in Scotland though. Promoting bands which were just placed third in a section (or fourth or even fifth?) is the wrong thing to do. A band could have placings of (for example) 2, 3, and 5 (possibly indicating a drop in standard over those three years)...

    Paddy's Scottish Area - 2013

They'll definitely be awarded 12th place for not being there.

    Brass Band Registry.

Sorry? I don't see what's patronising about saying I can't understand why someone's confused. Now i'm confused! Don't ask why though (obviously).

    Brass Band Registry.

I'd normally ignore the internet trolls, but when they come and sh*te in your backyard, then point and shout "look at that sh*tey backyard everyone" then it gets a little tedious after a while. What's worse is when the trolls get a lifetime ban from that backyard, and then start to shout...

    Brass Band Registry.

I don't see what's confusing about that. If Kapitol want to set up a new system then SBBA are quite happy to give them some advice if they ask. Again, I don't see what's confusing about that. Am I missing something here, some subtle inference that's lost through the medium of tMP?

Do you think the move to a Kapitol Owned registry is Good, Bad or . . . . .

Hi Jon. Firstly, my decision not to comment was based on what you said being irrelevant. SBBA went through a process of disciplinary and appeal, which ended a year ago with a final decision being made and upheld. You've said that process is ongoing, and also said that it's about to start, so it...

Do you think the move to a Kapitol Owned registry is Good, Bad or . . . . .

Hi Jon. Yes i'm aware of that information, but chose not to comment on them because as far as i'm concerned, now that the disciplinary process and appeals process are exhausted, they're not really relevant to my role on the SBBA Executive. If they become relevant in the future and I need to...

Do you think the move to a Kapitol Owned registry is Good, Bad or . . . . .

From the press release - "SBBA implemented a player-based system two years ago, and would be pleased to share our experience of that" So basically, if Kapitol ask SBBA how we do it, we'll tell them, and they might adopt a similar system. If BBBR ask SBBA how we do it, we'll tell them, and...

Do you think the move to a Kapitol Owned registry is Good, Bad or . . . . .

Hi Jon. You're veering off topic with this. If you want an explanation of how the democratic process works in an organisation like SBBA then drop me a PM. Always happy to help when asked.

Do you think the move to a Kapitol Owned registry is Good, Bad or . . . . .

Hi Jon. As far as i'm aware the disciplinary process was followed and your appeal was discussed a year ago (almost to the day) and reported in section 3 of this minute, which is available in the public domain. For me that was the end of the issue, and there's nothing else to keep up to date on...

Do you think the move to a Kapitol Owned registry is Good, Bad or . . . . .

Hi Jon, I wasn't part of the disciplinary panel so can't really comment on any of that. I just replied as I didn't want SBBA painted in such a bad light when there's so much positive work going on throughout Scotland. Well to be honest, I just rattled out a series of facts that are all in...

Do you think the move to a Kapitol Owned registry is Good, Bad or . . . . .

Hi Jon, just thought i'd clear this up as it seems to be troubling you. SBBA receives funding from Creative Scotland through various grants. Part of the application to Creative Scotland will be for money through the Youth Music Initiative to pay for the fantastic work the Development Manager...

Do you think the move to a Kapitol Owned registry is Good, Bad or . . . . .

Hi Jon, nice to speak to you again. As you know, all contesting bands in Scotland have to be members of SBBA. Those member bands are able to vote at the AGM on various issues. I'm sure someone could propose an alternative owner for the Scottish Registry (and therefore an alternative Registrar)...

Do you think the move to a Kapitol Owned registry is Good, Bad or . . . . .

At the moment, the registration system in Scotland generates a lot of income, every penny of which is reinvested in grass roots banding in Scotland, youth development, regional association development, etc. etc. Scottish bands decide who owns and runs our registry, that won't be up for...
