    Bands near Stockton on Tees

Are there any? My sister would like to start playing again after a fair few years off. She used to play flugel as a kid (20 years ago). She lives in Hartburn near Stockton. Are there any bands near there? I reckon she's been stopped long enough that any instrument would be ok, as she'll only...

Just watching the Apprentice, I could have sworn I've just heard an orchestral version of Mephistopheles. Does anyone know if there are any other orchestral versions of Contest Marches?

How about each Area choosing their own tests?

Having read Wilkie's recent post regarding Yorkshire choosing it's own tests for the areas in the '60s, how about each region getting to choose their own pieces for the Nationals qualifiers? To me there are a couple of advantages- 1) Increased interest across areas as there'd be more pieces to...

4 Bars Rest changes name to 'The Blandsman'

Having read the majority of the retros after this year's areas I've got mention how erm..'sterile' they appear to be. I know in the past they've been slated for some of the more descriptive nature of them, but surely now they've gone too far the other way. A lot of them seemed a bit too much...

Anyone know the date for next year?

I've tried to find the date for next year's festival without success, and wondered if it had been published yet? The reason I ask is that Whit Friday is on the 16th May next year, the same corresponding weekend as the Spring Festival was this year.
