    Tenor horn music

I have the Jonathan Bates Tenor Horn Album and it's very good - you do need quite a good range to play it some pieces have top C's but there is a good mix of slow and faster pieces, they are Ave Maria, Schubert - Finale form Violin Concerto, Vivaldi - Reverie, Debussy - Nocturne, Chopin - Girl...

    Newhall Band

Cornet players…fancy a challenge? Due to work pressure /exam success, Newhall Band will require a committed front row/principal cornet (negotiable) to take over from September. We’re a very friendly and successful 3rd section band, with a varied programme of contests and concerts throughout the...

    Harry Lear

A couple of names come to mind the first being James Watson who was appointed principal with Desford at the age of 11 (not sure what section they were in then) and Russell Gray who was appointed principal with Clydebank Burgh at the age of 12 (again not sure what section), but if Harry can...

Do you think the move to a Kapitol Owned registry is Good, Bad or . . . . .

I guess the only other alternative would have been for the Midlands Committee to have resigned en-bloc.

    Paddy's Midlands Area - 2012

Or you could always go to the final and win that and then you would get automatic promotion to the 3rd Section (although as I play with one of the other qualifying bands I really shouldn't say that). Congratulations on your win at the weekend and good luck at the finals.

    Paddy's Midlands Area - 2012

Not sure that's quite correct as the rules state "In the sections 1,2,3,4, the bands with the two best aggregate placing over the previous three years will be promoted. In the case where two or more bands tie with equal first placing, then only these bands will be promoted. If two or more bands...

    Paddy's Midlands Area - 2012

Congratulations to Newhall on reaching the Finals and to Trentham and Newhall for gaining promotion to the Third Section. Feel very sorry for Burbage who did everything they could do and miss out on promotion by 0.5 point.

    Derby Contest 2012

Hi Adam, thank you for the information and explanation regarding the special awards, this has obviously changed from previous years when they were allocated to a particular section, and presented with the prizes for that section, ie. 3rd and 4th section specials awarded before 1st and 2nd...

    Derby Contest 2012

No, originally there were 9 in the 3rd/4th and 8 in the 1st/2nd so it would seem fair if there were, say 7 soloist prizes, then these be split 4 and 3 not 2 and 5 which as I said seems disproportionate. As these are allocated by the NEMBBA and are different each year, when they knew some bands...

    Derby Contest 2012

Can anybody explain the logic to me, of why, when the 3rd and 4th Sections at this contest had 8 bands taking part they only get allocated 2 soloist prizes where as the 1st and 2nd have only 5 bands competing they get at least 5 (if not more). This seems slightly disproportionate compared to the...

    The Frogs of Aristophanes

I've actually sent a message to Brass Band Results site telling them which band it was but they obviously haven't yet had time to update the records.

Leicester (Loughborough) contest : Sunday 27th November 2011

Think Bollington, Brackley and Enderby have been missed off the first section list and seem to have migrated themselves in to the unregistered section. :-?

NEMBBA contest at Derby Rolls-Royce 20th feb

Did the same to my quote for bugsy and reelbigtrombone, I'm sure someone much cleverer than me would be able to tell us why.
