    Christmas Day Working at all?

I'm not sure that I normally agree with you, Donna, but in this I most certainly do! :D

    Christmas Day Working at all?

Thanks! I must review the procedures and have a rethink...

    Christmas Day Working at all?

I'm a Mummy and I work every day of the year. But also, to all those people that work on days like yesterday so that we can all have emergency facilities and other services. Thanks!

Christmas Concert falls victim to snow!!

Our bandroom opening concert a couple of weeks ago had to be cancelled due to the weather too. I think it's going to be rescheduled in the new year. It's a shame that so much effort goes into organising something only for it to be scuppered!

    Young Persons Car Insurance

I was a named driver on a policy for a number of years then my circumstances changed and I needed my own policy, I was lucky that Direct Line took into account my experience as a named driver and gave me the equivalent of some no claims. I was over 25 though (and female - not sure why female...

    Band Stands

That's the one, thanks! In my (limited) experience of bandstands - have probably played in less than half a dozen in my life - they usually seem to be a bit of a tight fit, especially if you bring timps and whatnot! Where there's a will there's a way, though, and some jiggery pokery...

    Band Stands

In the summer before I moved over here I played in a bandstand in a park in Aberdeen with Granite City Brass. Can't remember the name of the park though.

    Is tMP's time passing?

How would you define "active"? Personally I'm often "lurking", without actually posting. It doesn't mean I'm not reading both what I consider to be the sensible posts, and those where someone is taking an opportunity to be inflammatory for no apparent reason. Is an active member someone who...

    Is tMP's time passing?

Personally I like the moderation here. I dislike unmoderated sites, in my opinion they're usually full of people who think that swearing excessively and making negative personal remarks is somehow "cool" and "grown up". Each to his own I suppose! I don't spend as much time on here as the...

Parents who both play in band(s) - how do you do it?

I've tried bringing him along and sitting him in the pram in the corridor outside the room where the band rehearses (at the time I was trying to listen in to a guest conductor taking the band), but he kept "joining in" and I felt he was interrupting stuff, so went for a walk with him instead...

Parents who both play in band(s) - how do you do it?

This question is really directed at "band families". You know, two people both play in band(s) and suddenly there's an addition to the family and life is never the same again (in a good way!). We both play in the same band. The monster is nearly three months old, and highly unlikely to lie...

tMP Geography - where are you all from?

I did indeed, PM sent to avoid going too far off topic ;)

    2010 European at risk?

Probably just as well that we're not going this year, as we have no bridges or tunnels! Maybe see some of you next year instead! Good luck to all with the travel arrangements, hope the ash clears soon and the flights are back to normal.

tMP Geography - where are you all from?

I'm from Scotland, but I live in Ireland ;). I like the idea of your fantasy league, however I'm really out of touch with the banding scene in the UK and don't have time right now to catch up enough to have a go. Good luck with it!

    3 year system

It depends which Association you belong to. They all appear to have different rules re: promotion and relegation. I'd look up the rules on the website of your Association to find this, sorry to not be able to give you a definitive answer, but I remember in Scotland we had different rules to...

    Stuck in a rut

Corrected ;-). I do agree, though, that the person in the end chair in any section is only as good as the people backing them up. One strong soloist will sound really rough without a good section there, so even if you feel that you're a stronger player, your sense of teamwork should keep you...

Help! Split lip a week before the areas!

I used to use Blisteze (now branded Blistex) in a tube for split lips. It stings a little when you put it on, but it's really effective. I can't vouch for the other remedies though ;-). Using a good quality lip balm (or even just Vaseline) does help prevent this happening I have found. I like...

    Conductor on the loose

North West of which country, Mike? (Wouldn't normally ask but I know you're as pedantic as myself - if not more so!).
