Just to mention that any retired brass banders or shift workers who fancy a day time blow will always be welcome at Imps and Friends Vets band once a fortnight on Tuesday mornings at 11am (Next blow next Tues 27th Feb). There is no commitment, no gigs and no contests, just 1.1/2 hours playing...
Hurray ~ tmp seems to have drawn back from the edge of bitter oblivion and is now quite stimulating with good interesting threads being debated by nice folk ~ Excellent, thanks to all concerned.

I'm trying to source a book called "The Cornet Players Pastime" published in 1957 It was a collection of 14 Solo Cornet parts selected from the Boosey and Hawkes catalogue.
Can anybody point me in the right direction please.

I have just listed this on ebay.It was a well meant gift from someone who knows my strong banding connections. This is a great book by Roy Newsome published in 2006, but I haven't even opened it as I am intimately familiar with its contents as I lived through most of the times. It covers the...
What has happened to the monthly Editorials on 4br ? There hasn't been one since about January which is unusual. Perhaps they've gone so PC they fear that publicly expressing opinions may contravene some Health and Safety rule, especially if a maligned target comes after them, or perhaps...
I know a band where two players were asked to leave/left because they preferred not to sign up with the Kapitol Registry.

I have a Hewlett Packard Deskjet F2100 all in one printer/scanner. I have had it for about 5 years and found it an excellent machine up until about 2 years ago.
Now, most times when I turn it on, it asks me to insert the set up CD and goes through the whole set...

Sandwiched between tracks from Brighouse and Fodens his fine performance of "The Cornet King" with Kippax Band was given an airing ~ Class act Nige !
I'd like to hear more of the the unsung...
I was just thinking that I do all my typing with one finger, middle finger, right hand.
My speed is quite reasonable for a one digit prodder, but I really wish I could touch type like Mrs W.
I've tried, but even after persevering I find it is totally beyond my learning capacity.
I have lost a piece of my personal Brass Band memorabilia, namely my old Yorkshire Schools Band badge.
It might seem a bit trivial, but I liked it.
I don't hold out much hope, but is there anyone out there with one lying unloved at the back of a drawer who would be prepared to sell it to me...
A professional musician Mate of mine put this on Face Book :-
A guy calls the musicians' guild to get a quote on a 6 piece band for a wedding.
The rep says "Off the top of my head it'll cost you about $2000".
He says"WHAT? FOR MUSIC?.
"The rep responds " I'll tell you what.
