    Bass Trombone Stand

For what it's worth the K&M stands are up to the job - but getting pricier all the time, so I dare say you'll find a better buy, as has already been recommended.

Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band - In Aid Of The Mayor's Appeal concert

<bump> Pleased to be playing with ICCB for this concert - it's a good programme and they're a lovely bunch of people; should be a good gig :)

    Exciting Openers.

And here's a link to a full [video] recording of "Summon the Dragon", as the 'teaser' clips on music websites don't give the whole story. Rather a good performance this, too :) http://youtu.be/t4N-I4xh3xY?t=3s

    Exciting Openers.

"Summon The Dragon" by Peter Graham is worth a shout here - a highly effective and compact work, it combines the best elements of 'Fanfare for the Common Cold' and the Olympic Theme in an original work for band :)

    Conducting Style

Mr. Hobgoblin, it may interest you to know that I started out in a band such as that which you described in your reply to my well-meant words, aged 8. I've also conducted such bands very happily, and to their satisfaction as well. It's all a case of horses for courses, after all, which is what I...

Oh, thankyou - someone did read it with an open mind, after all - phew ;)

    Sold/Expired Rath R4FST for sale

I wouldn't normally post something like this in a public forum, however I feel in this case a word of warning may be in order. The OP states a list price from Rath of £3800. Rath's website clearly states that all list prices are inclusive of VAT (@ 20%). VAT only applies to new instruments; the...

    Conducting Style

I've resisted the urge to post on this thread until now. A conductor can add - or subtract - enormous value to/from any group of players. The first rule of conducting is "Don't Make It Worse", yet there are so many conductors who just that. A good conductor can make things sound better, and fix...

    ODBBA Winter Contest

It's all-too-easily done with text-only communication; I should have proof-read more thoroughly before posting (clearly the first pint of tea hadn't yet worked its magic this morning). No apology necessary on your part, David - I'm just glad no harm was done. Thanks for your quick response -...

    ODBBA Winter Contest

David - I did not mean to imply that Egham's withdrawal had anything to do with the changes proposed to the system of adjudication, and as this was how you read my question, feel I must apologise for this. On re-reading my post, I can see how it might have been misconstrued, given that I...

You've quoted Rath's list price, but not given an indication as to your asking price?

    ODBBA Winter Contest

I'll leave that for the association to answer (at least whilst it's still before the contest has taken place)

    ODBBA Winter Contest

Have there been any further withdrawals since the changes to the adjudication system proposed by FR? It's caused some disquiet in the ranks at Epsom & Ewell, though we still look forward to playing at the contest, and supporting ODBBA once again.

Malcolm Arnold - "Peterloo" Overture; Narration?

Heh, then please don't take offence when I call you a know-it-all ;) I'm glad to hear that - it makes all the difference to rehearsals and performance when players (and audiences) have a proper insight into the piece, and what it's about. I noticed it's on the library list of a band I've just...

Malcolm Arnold - "Peterloo" Overture; Narration?

The orchestral score has a preface describing the dreadful events of that day (16 August 1819), which I have always read out during the rehearsal process - and if it's not reproduced in the concert programme, would read to the audience before performing the piece. I haven't seen the score of...

Thanks, Toby. I've managed to secure an original part from a source close to home, thankfully.

    Prelude - 49th Parallel

I'm looking for a 2nd horn part to "Prelude - 49th Parallel" by Vaughan Williams (arr. Roy Douglas), which I'm conducting in a concert on Saturday. We only discovered last night that the part is missing, and writing out a new part from the condensed score isn't practical, unfortunately. Any...

    Round Stamp B&H Sovereigns

As with any instrument maker, there is no guarantee that an old instrument will definitely be a good one. There's a certain amount of blinkeredness over this - there are some very rough Elkhart Conns out there, for instance! But they were very good, and have aged well - one of the best...
