Pennine Festival of Brass - Cancelled.

It is a shame Gary, was looking forward to it. I just hope that the new Master of Music loves brass bands as much as Ian did.

    Leicester Open 2010

He didn't say it didn't go well, infact quite the opposite and we were very pleased with our performance. Remarks were very good too but on the day just didn't win favour.

    Fire at Faireys?

What awful news, hope the cause of the fire was accidental...horrible to think that someone could do something like that! Chin up guys and girls...sure the banding world will be there to support you in anyway they can!

Try looking at the music site NUMU as they often run composers competitions. I use it in school all the time and they are currently running a fanfare competition. The BBC also run competitions for young composers, think there is one on the way now.

Army Cut Backs & The T.A Bands

We have been rehearsing. We were allowed to do that, just didn't get paid, and for the interest of our band we wanted to carry on and our CO (Commanding Officer) allowed this. Some bands weren't even allowed to continue rehearsing. As TA bands are operated outside the regular bands (Corps of...

Army Cut Backs & The T.A Bands

Of course it is, but we'd rather wait and hear it from our CO's just to make sure!!!:D

Army Cut Backs & The T.A Bands

Not much, they forget that the musicians ae part of the TA and we are regularly out doing our job. The Army's thoughts are that if they can't have their bands do it, they'll pay outside bands to come and do the work for them, which kind of defeats the object of cut backs?

Army Cut Backs & The T.A Bands

Every band is in a different position and it is based around what the CO's decide. For example some bands are not allowed to meet or do any jobs for the next 6 months and some are allowed to continue to rehearse if they wish (but again some may rehearse every week, twice a month, once a month...

    New Ensemble in Auckland, NZ

I'm sure that when Carolyn was over in England a couple of months back she was just as enthusiastic to set up an ensemble just as Marc was, and the way the ensemble worked here is that everyone had an equal input in what happened with the ensemble but myself and Carolyn did the running around on...

    Death of Geoff Whitham.

A sad loss to the bandiing world, though I'm sure his musical analogies will live on in bandrooms and rehearsals across the country for many years to come!! RIP Geoff.

    Inspiration for Major works

Andi, you make the band sound like geeks (but then I think it was me that started the conversation!!). I'm sure my inspiration would be John Cage and his prepared piano pieces or 4'33!!

    Sang Till Lotta

That was my other theory, but I didn't know how much it was before YM so couldn't comment.

    Sang Till Lotta

My random guess is that the publishers were tyring to cash in after it was featured on Young Musician of the Year. However, I could be completely off the mark there.
