Share My Yoke - Piano Accompaniment?

Just a quick note! The score for the brass band arrangment is actually in concert pitch and can be quite adequately played by an accomplished pianist without any fuss. Before anyone knocks this I actually used it a few years ago in a few solo contests and it worked fine! No arrangment...

    Mouthpiece modification

I play on a Denis Wick 2 but it has been bored out to what would be the equivilent of a 1 cup (if they made it!) I had it done by an engineering friend of mine but there are plenty of Machine shops that will do this for you Alternatively Parkers in London quoted me a few years ago to put a...

Well done to Beaumaris (my old lot) for what I believe was a fantastic performance. On to Rotterdam (hopefully) Mike

    Paddy's Welsh Area - 2011

Hi Wayne Sorry to hear about the result! My brother Nick thorougly enjoyed playing with you and also believes the result was a bit of a farce! However I personally think you may be paying the price for your support of Paul in your letter to 4barsrest a fewweeks ago! I bet you cringed...

Can a top section band maintain playing standards without contests?

I can quite categorically say that Wire is not 'folding' Just because we have decided to remove ourselves from the ludicrous and egotisical aspect of our 'hobby' doesn't spell the death of another band. I will be doing my level best to make sure the vultures swarming around will be blown...

Why pay the adjudicators anyway? Why don't they do it for the 'love' of it like we all do? (or did in my case) Tounge firmly in cheek here btw

I, like all of you am entilted to an opinion. Apologizes if my answer appeared curt. Perhaps I should have placed a smiley pic on the end of the post!

That is a question you should pose to Mr. Andrews. We have over the years employed a variety of 'formations'. Some have worked, others have not but we have never been a band to conform to the 'norm' Why do we as a movement always think that the 'norm/traditional' formation is correct...

Having read the comments from the emminent Mr. Buchegger it appears that he enjoyed our performance. There was nothing constructive or dismissive in his comments. However is does beg a question when the opening line of his comments read 'please forgive me as I do not write well in english'. Our...

    English Nationals - Why.....

Damn you just stole my thunder! The brass band movement ITSELF survived for generations before the BFBB popped up! Perhaps the BFBB needs to address the inherent problems of arts/music funding and less about supporting another contest we all don't need. Is that too political or for another...

    English Nationals - Why.....

Why is there this feeling from certain quarters that bands should be penalised for not attending this contest? The band I play for were asked to attend after Brighouse withdrew because we were the next highest ranked band in the World of Brass rankings. Are the people who are sprouting this...

    How to become an Adjudicator??

What about being over 65, mainly deaf, not a working musician, and being able to stand up at the end of the contest and say that 'when this were written in 1937 it were a test then and its a test now'?

    4br retros

you have to remember that like many 4barsrest adjudicate mainly with their eyes NOT their ears! I do know for a fact that the 4bars rest 'critic' wasn't even in the hall for the start of the N West champs section! Make of that what you will!

Help! Split lip a week before the areas!

Blistex Med Plus is the best thing I have found! It comes in a small round blue tub. Before this I tried Carmex from Superdrug. They both contain Camphor which acts to sooth the pain and cool down the soreness. I would also try not overdoing it when you actually get the gob irom on your face...

4BR Ratings - How do they work it out

Do you mean there may be an element of bias towards certain Welsh bands on our most viewed public brass band forums? (tounge most firmly in cheek now!!!)

4BR Ratings - How do they work it out

This cannot be true as we recently won the Rhyl Festival of Brass with two Welsh bands behind us that are graded higher and it didn't even make a comment on 4br or warrant any points! How does that work?
