Surely I cant be the first to start this thread?! (If i've missed a previous one I apologise). .
Not heard many whispers this year, but I saw a good source claiming Essay in the First Section.
Anyone got any other good runners and riders?
I'm looking for an own choice Test Piece contest in Late September (would consider the first weekend in October).
If anyone can point me in the right direction that'd be great :)
I'm sorry, where on the website? I can't see anything that is new.
We have had several emails back and forth with the organisers. Non of which satisfied our concerns.
We have withdrawn.
I'll be following coverage of the say to see just how the bands will get on and off stage, set up...
Yup, that's about the thinking, however when you add in comfort breaks, and more than 15 mins (x3) for the results etc, it doesn't have to go far astray on the day to be finishing at 10.30/11pm. . .
We've a 1.5hr trip home, and kids in school the next day & folks going to work - They are not...
We have had a reply from LBBA, the schedule posted to bands is correct, so there are still 4 sections in one hall.
They are 'aware' it is a lot of bands to process in a day, and they know they'll have to keep things moving along, but are sure the day will run smoothly and things will go to...
Has anyone else going to this contest had a close look at the timings in the hall that is to hold UnRegistered, 4th, 3rd & 2nd sections in a day?!
The timing sheet shows the contest starting at 8.45am with 44 bands due to take the stage.
We are in the 2nd section, and without revealing the...
I got an email from R Smith I think this morning and it was priced £85, however Just Musik have it listed at £80. Shop around would be my advice (Obviously 10% off is the best on here so far though. . ).
I'd heard 2015's area pieces Summed up as a 'Peter Graham Fest' - although I'm not sure exactly what this meant! What about 2/3/4 sections - as usual everyone is tied up in what the big boys will be playing, and not the majority of bands in the country!
However King Arthur is a favourite of a member of the panel who is not conducting at the RAH this year I believe, he's been working for it to be a National Final piece for a couple of years at least (since before the Ravel), so any suggestion it was picked by a Conductor with a good Euph is a...
http://www.whitfriday.brassbands.saddleworth.org/intro.html - is the best place for info.
for my money I'd go watch at greenfield - nice venue, easy to get to see the bands - all the top bands do it, and you get a really long march to see the bands in action too, not just standing still!
Having travelled north last year to enter this contest with Emley, I can recommend this as a great opportunity for a weekend away with your team, Kirkcadly is a compact town with every amenity within walking distance, and the contest itself is very well run, in a lovely theatre style hall. . . :)
The Subtitles work on catch-up via your computer - there's an 'S' in a box bottom left, click that and chose what subtitles you want.
I agree with RO, the talking over the music was irritating, still it's a hell of a lot more exposure than amateur music normally gets, and a pleasant program.
Emley Brass Band are recruiting following the departure of a couple of our long serving team. We are looking for;
a bass player (either flavour, Eb or BBb) due to our flexible team.
a 2nd Baritone (or possibly a 2nd trom if not)
a percussionist, because I'm greedy and want a team of three...
