What's your band doing about Child Performance Licencing

So now we have reached the point where you have to have a licence for a child to participate in a hobby. How stupid!

    Regressive Butlins Choices ... ?

Hi All, I must say that I am disappointed with the Butlins choices for 2nd Section this year. Not because they are bad music (though I remain to be convinced about the Frogs) but because these arrangements are nearly as old as I am and they are, in part due to Moomin's thought about the sound of...

How do you like your regional test piece?

Hi Dave: 1. No - encourage the best performance from your 2nd baritone 2. Maybe - but give the player chance to improve. 3. No 4. Definitely no. This is all too true, but the responsibility lies with the selection panel to have realistic expectations of what the bands in each section should...

How do you like your regional test piece?

Tom, I have no problem at all with an MD making minor tweaks, and there is always scope for interpretation. But some MDs go a whole lot further than that. It's fine to move parts around if you don't have players in situ. But, the test piece is meant to be a test of the bands, not a test of the...

How do you like your regional test piece?

Not only does it breach copyright, but, IMHO, it is cheating. The whole point of having a set test piece is that every band plays the same music. Otherwise, make it own choice. Some MDs are far too fond of thinking that they know better than the composer of the work. Maybe in the olden days when...

    Date a hot Asian lady...

It may be browser related. I have criticised Firefox recently for being too stringent with what it lets me see (as well as being super slow and prone to hanging) but maybe it's protecting me?

How do you like your regional test piece?

Sibelius certainly has a feature than can mimimise (but not entirely eradicate) incorrect spellings of accidentals. As Moomin says, a tool is only as good as its user.

How do you like your regional test piece?

From what I heard at Butlins, something like that happened! My main gripe with Ex terra is incorrect use of musical terms - tutti (after a divisi passage - not even after a solo) instead of a2. I know it's a small thing, but it enrages my OCD! :) With apologies for the late edit, I forgot to...

Vibrato - you control it, not the other way round. Like fire, it is a good servant but a bad master!

How do you like your regional test piece?

I thought Dark Side of the Moon was awful - I still do. Maybe if I had been playing Euph then I might not have been so deeply, deeply bored with it.

How do you like your regional test piece?

I'm extraordinarily surprised to find that I enjoy playing Ex Terra Lucem as much as, if not more than, Variations for Brass Band. I never thought I would say something like that, but I do. And it suits the band as well.
