    Lockdown and dentist

Thanks for that. I lost my dog last August due to age and illness.A bad time for us but despite saying no more as I am getting too old I ended up with a new Labrador pup who is now 8 months old. A cracker but daft as a brush. Will get better in time but never had one as wild as this. Perhaps I...

    Lockdown and dentist

Thanks for the advice. Rang dentist this morning.Told "not classed as an emergency as not in severe pain". NHS advice to dentist regarding dentures is not to make inpressions or have dentures manufactured or fit therefore stuck with this until advice changes. In the meantime I am living on soup...

    Lockdown and dentist

New dog ate my top dentures after he grabbed it off bench when cleaning. Managed to get impressions and new top set made but my new teeth are now sitting in my dentists cupboard waiting for a fitting. Unfortunately no appointment can be made for fitting as lockdown has closed the surgery until...

    Valve Alignment at Home

The picture seems to show the valve too low, is Photos seems to show valve too low meaning felts are too thick unless photo shown upside down?

    Valve Alignment at Home

Thomann e-mail today asked for return of cornet for repair under warranty. Post paid label to Germany also included. Well done Thomann. Further report to follow but may take a few weeks for result. Back Tomy old Welklang in the meantime with tuning issues.

    Valve Alignment at Home

Sorry but clacking noise is the metal valve returning to its up position and not silenced by the felt that should be there. Otherwise all looks well. Waiting for Thomann reply

    Valve Alignment at Home

Thanks for the advice. Given a new Thomann C400 cornet for Xmas last. Hard to blow but as a newbie thought it was me. After reading this and checking valves found all 3 to be 1/3 closed in the up position. had to remove the whole stopper felt on the valve stem to get a nearly open position. Now...

    New would be cornet player

Just bought a Gewa 7C mouthpiece and what a difference. Playing Last Post, Reveille and Charlie Reveille easily now , that is until I visited dentist today. Result - Scale and polish and 4 fillings. Dentures fit better, but now unable to hit high C and G. Tuning cornet with slides helps a little...

    Practice Valves

What vandalism. There must be many like myself who want a cheap basic instrument for practise even if it is worn out. What a waste. Needs his bits sawing off for doctors to play with eh?

    New would be cornet player

Thank you all for the priceless advice. Cornet has a John Ridgeon 3M mouthpiece although I also have a sonata 4C. Managing up to high G and C but after playing these notes two or three times I find I can no longer play them again and just make a noise like a bagpipe (perhaps I take up playing...

Cornet valve port alignment woes Quality Control?

Had a similar problem with those cork tubes under the finger button on a recently purchased old cornet. All notes were badly out of tune and on closer examination found that the valves were prevented from going down all the way Because of the extreme thickness of those cork thingamabobs. Removed...

    New would be cornet player

Thanks all for your valuable advice. No cornet yet but getting plenty of practise on 7c mouthpiece. Funny how it is that I can play the whole of the French National Anthem quite well hitting every note but my Last Post and Reveille (especially) result in difficulties with notes. Mouthpiece...

    New would be cornet player

Just found an old Rudall Carter & Co cornet for sale for £25. Year appears about 1945 or so. Paying p&p on top so looking forward to getting it here. All brass and needs a polish but everything works. Cannot go wrong at price. Better half not too happy so will have to practice at end of base...

    New would be cornet player

No sympathy from my dentist and no others within 150 miles. Persevering with empty guns and can manage quite a bit and certainly from C to C with some cracking. Lip placement on mouthpiece I find is important, but wondering whether a larger mouthpiece would help. Using a 7C but I'll perhaps send...
